Please join the members of the Bicycle for Life - Rowan Cyclists Team for our Foothills Training Series Rides. These rides is designed for all levels of the cycling enthusiast, recreational cyclists as well as experienced cyclists. Each rider is can set their own pace and should feel good to complete any of the courses, work on their own fitness as well as contribute to the cycling community. All of the proceeds for the Foothills Training series will be used to help the Rowan Cyclists Team supporting the Junior Development programs in Rowan County.

  • All Cyclists must have and wear ANSI or SNELL approved helmets during the time they are on their bicycle for these rides.

When:

  1. Completed _ Monday, September 03, 2007 – End of Summer rides 65, 85, & 111 miles

  2. Completed _ Saturday, September 29, 2007 – Almost Fall Ride 53 miles

  3. Saturday, November 03, 2007 – It's Autumn Ride 103 miles

  4. Get Ready for Winter - To be announced for November

Distance:

  • Foothills Training distances will range from 45 to over 100 miles with some loop sections and some out and back sections, all of which should be challenging.

  • The routes may be marked in some area and some volunteers may be avialable for limited support, so please get a que sheet for the ride you are on or make sure you are with someone that knows the route and area roads.

  • The Nov 3rd course will use a new route with portions of other routes we have had in the past.

Courses:

  • The current courses are on relatively low traffic roads with a good amount of rolling hills and short mountain training.

  • They have several long hills with a total climbing ranging from about 4,000 ft to over 9,200 ft of up and also going down the same amount.

  • Store stops are located along the routes at intervals so you can get basic liguids, snack food, drinks and use restrooms.

Location:

  • The Nov 3rd rides is planned to start and end at Windsong Bike Shop in Salisbury, NC

  • you can look at a start map here for each date

Directions:

Registration: No Fee – Complimentary – Donations!

  • Please doante what you can to support Rowan Cyclists Team. Suggested donation is $10 per person, Please make checks out to 'Bicycle for Life'. All of the proceeds for the Foothills Training series will be used to help the Rowan Cyclists Team supporting the Junior Development programs in Rowan County.

Support

  • A SAG vehicle may cruise the course on some Foothills Training Rides for support, but not for some, so come prepared to be self-supported.

  • These rides have minimum support other than an occasional volunteer. Make sure you have a que sheet, money and basic repair items with you for your ride.

Mechanical Support

  • Some mechanical support may be available. All riders are encouraged to bring an extra tube and tools to fix a flat tire.
